Clean and fresh from a smoke-free environment Provenance-Ancestry-Heritage I obtained this unique Felix stuffed animal at an estate sale in Palm Springs, California. A desert city located two hours east of Hollywood, Palm Springs has been a weekend getaway for movie stars and film moguls since the 1920s. Golfing is the primary pastime here. I do not golf, but I find great enjoyment in the city's next popular activity, shopping. About Applause: Applause was a division of Knickerbocker, both known for producing superior quality licensed commercial products for Disney, Muppets, Warner Brothers, Sesame Street, and other recognizable names. Dakin's merger with Applause created even greater quality standards in plush design and manufacturing. About Felix: Felix the Cat began his life in the 1910s as Master Tom an animated character by Otto Messmer. Felix made his first film appearance in 1919 as the charming yet mischevious cat in Feline Follies. Shortly after he film debut, he appeared in syndicated cartoons, increasing his popularity further. The comic strip helped define the cat's features from a less 'rat face' to more 'cat face'. This brought him to the retail world where his name and image were used to sell stuffed toys, dolls, cigars, clocks, and other consumer goods. One of his admirers was Charles Lindbergh, who choose a Felix doll as his lucky mascot on his historic transatlantic flight. Films with sound and Walt Disney's mouse stole the limelight from Felix until he returned to film in the 1960s. Bringing Felix to a new generation, the film Felix the Cat, the Movie was released in Europe in 1986. The Felix in this listing is a product of that release. The millennium brought him an abundance of commercials and product representation, Today, Felix continues as a beloved cat icon well after his 100th birthday.
